Vegas: The Big Game at Mirage

All my blogs are up to date now.  If you want to start from the beginning read from the bottom up.

Today (Friday Aug. 15) we wake up and take care of the usual morning stuff.  I eat a piece of cornbread for lunch and we go to Mirage. I’ve been debating whether I want to take a shot at 10/20 Limit today.  That’s pretty big for me but I’ve been crushing the 4/8 so I decide to take a shot when I get there and see a relatively soft lineup.

I get off to a rough start losing KJ to J8 for about 8 big bets on a board of QJ9 where this old cowboy rivered an 8 to scoop it up.  I dont know how to play that any better.  Raise preflop, bet flop, bet turn, check river for free showdown.  Drop a ten out there one time for him to be drawing dead and me and him would still be there raising.  I chop a big pot with QQ when another guy had QQ for a small profit on the hand.  Then I go on a sick run where I’m not lying, at least 50% of my starting hands had a deuce in them.  It was a more aggressive game than I’m used to so not much I could do.  Two bets to me and I look down at a 2.  Three bets to me and I look down at a 2.  I was really getting to the point that I was telling myself “Give me an ace, a king, JT, a pair, a suited connector or any hand I would play for one bet and I’m making it four bets cold” but in all seriousness I never did.  I didn’t really play scared (noted by the last big pot I lost with A7 vs 88 on a board of J73JK) I just never had anything.  I can’t really look back and think of any big pots I would have won had I played a certain hand and I can’t really think of any hand I played where I had a chance to bluff and take it down because they just always had a hand to call down with.

I dropped 300 in this game which isn’t really that bad (and not even that close to my biggest losing day this trip) but for some reason it stings.  After a while the cowboy left to play shorthanded 20/40 at which point the table filled up with the waiting list of a few internet monkeys and I decide to swallow my pride and call it quits.  I walk across to Venetian to play 4/8 and win back a few bets and have a few Coronas.  A couple hours later I realize that my food intake for the day has consisted of a piece of cornbread and four Coronas and think I better get something to eat.  Cash it out, roll through In N Out Burger and I’m a happy man.

I really wanted to book a big winner today in the 10/20 like Rusty did.  I came to Vegas a month ago thinking I’d stay a week or so and I’ve been wearing the same four shirts ever since.  If I can book a big winner one day ever I’m going to buy another shirt I promise.
