We wake up Thursday and we head back to the strip and we continue our standard beginning to the day. Walk through Caesars poker room and nothing is going, walk through the Bellagio and the wait is a thousand people long, walk through Treasure Island and nothing is going on, so we play at the Mirage which was looking decent. We sit in on a fishy as hell 1/2NL game and run it up a hundred while Curt meets us there and sits in on a 2/5NL.
Suddenly I hear angels singing when the shorthanded 2/5 game players begin complaining that 2/5NL is not enough action so THEY WANT TO PLAY 1/2 POT LIMIT OMAHA! Dollar signs light up in my eyes and I sprint across the poker room to lock up a seat since I’ve played a hundred thousand hands of PLO probably and these guys are trying to figure out the rules all while complaining that they can’t buy in deeper than $500 (which became a non issue as quickly the game got very deep with the avg. stack around 800 or 900). In no time we’re playing and these guys are stacking it off except me, Rusty and what I came to find out was a guy named Alex who plays PLO online (we played with him a few times over the trip and he was cool). At one point we’re all starving and Alex tries to sneak into the high limit blackjack room and try to get us some comps or something. Instead he steals some cookies and gets asked to leave.
Only a couple hands I remember. One hand I have AQJT suited in nut spades and call a pot and repot raise preflop (standard in this super deep game). Flop comes out Q78 with two spades giving me top-top, the nut flush draw and a gutshot. I check, the preflop raiser bets the pot at around $90, I repop it the pot to $360 and the third player folds. Curt (who was in the hand) snap calls all in. The turn and river brick me off leaving me one sad pair and I announce “Ace Queen… I probably lost” to which Rusty looks at Curt’s hand and says “Nah I think you won”. Come to find out Curt stacked it off drawing almost dead with AJT4 or something weird. Dont worry, he got his money back when he flopped top set against middle set against a monkey who was racking up to leave. Folds around to them in the blinds and the guy doesn’t want to chop with Curt so they play. They repot it about six times on the flop until the other guy throws his racks in the middle of the table and says “Here you go if you got a set of kings” and loses about $900 to Curt in one hand (an easy fold IMO, set of nines on a board of K94 rainbow playing almost a thousand deep).
Six hours later Rusty, Alex and I are the only three winners in this game and it breaks up. +600 in PLO, +100 NLHE makes me up $675 total for the trip so far. We hit the Rio Buffet where Curt proceeds to eat approx. 90 lbs. of crab legs and I did my share of damage and we check out the poker room and decide it aint worth playing. Its late, always games tomorrow, bedtime.
