Vegas: The Beginning

So I’m sitting in Dallas looking for a job when Rusty calls me and says “Free trip to Vegas man, all you gotta do is help me drive to Vegas and move my furniture in!”  So I load it up, he pulls up in a Uhaul Monday night (July 21) and we roll out of Dallas.  30 hours later we barely come straggling into Vegas after almost breaking down in the mountains (thanks for a two hour detour around Hoover Dam).  We both have the most bloodshot eyes and look like death so we grab some sleep.

Wednesday we move his furniture in while its 106 degrees outside.  Working as a Mover at Armstrong Relocation in Dallas was still hotter.  We finish, grab a shower and head for the strip.  We look around at the Caesar’s poker room and Mirage that afternoon and both games looked pretty raggedy so we went to go play at the Venetian.  We sat in on 1/2NL for a few hours and meet up with Omid’s friend Curt who is awesome.  The poker room at Venetian is classy, and the action was pretty fishy at our table.  The highlight of this session was a guy who went busto with QQ vs AA preflop, got up all steamed and walked off without his phone.  The dealer tries to stop him and the floor comes over to ask the dealer for the guy’s description.  “White guy, brown hair, medium build, no chips”.  I about died laughing from that.  A couple of QQs later I cash out -$25.

We go eat at the Grand Lux and we had the best waiter in the history of dining.  He had every single thing on the (very long) menu along with every variation possible memorized along with his own personal reviews of every possible variation.  The food was good and I would recommend it.  After that we walk around the strip drinking and walk through some places like Harrah’s (looks like every other Harrah’s I’ve seen) and hung out at Imperial Palace where Curt was staying.  Rusty went on blackjack tilt and tried to leave but the pit boss insisted on rating his play which meant he proceeded to lose another few hundred while she was holding onto his player’s card taking care of all that.  Its late, we’re tired so we go back to Rusty’s and crash.
